December 19, 2022 - In an effort to process 30-day re-runs for dealers FICS
has set up a TEMPORARY 30-day re-run phone line. This phone line will be active on
a temporary basis to assist with the current unprecedented numbers we are
experiencing in FICS. Dealers if you have a 30-day re-run for an approved transaction
transactions please call 503-934-0177. This line is ONLY for 30-day re-runs.

December 16, 2022 - OSP has received concerns regarding the order in which
transactions are being processed.  We understand the portal is indicating some
individual transactions are moving backwards.  Unfortunately, this is due to the way
the system interprets the transactions as they come in. Regardless, OSP is able
to track and process transactions based upon the date received.  We will
continue to process transactions based on the date of receipt.

December 12, 2022 - The Oregon State Police (OSP) has previously processed
Concealed Handgun License holders at an expedited pace through the Firearms Instant
Check System. For years, this practice was efficient and effective. Recently,
the unprecedented surge in background requests caused a severe impact on the
efficiency of this practice and the overall background process. OSP has recognized
this impact and altered the background process to ensure background requests,
that are in the "Queue", are processed in the order they are received by the FICS
Unit.

The FICS Unit is aware of the issue with phone calls disconnecting after 3.5
hours on hold and we are actively working on a resolution. We will post an update
as soon as this issue has been resolved.

OSP is aware that the system is slow, and we are actively working on a
resolution.  At this time, please do not refresh your status screen as this puts a
strain on the system.  We will post an update as soon as this issue has been
resolved.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022 requires enhanced background
checks for persons between the ages of 18-20 years old. Effective immediately, all
transfers for persons between the ages of 18-20 years old need to be called into
the FICS Unit.

If the FFL license provided to the FICS Unit has expired, please email the
current signed FFL license to the FICS Unit to the dealer email so the account can
be updated. The expiration date on file with the FICS Unit is located in the
upper right corner on the Location of Sale dealer page. ATF does not send new FFL
licenses to the FICS Unit.

*A dealer with an expired FFL will not be able to log into the new dealer
portal when the new system goes live in 2023.*

The issue with entering a UPIN as a form of identification has been corrected.
If you are still having issues when entering a UPIN as a form of
identification, please call the dealer line.
